Ringworm of the Nails

Ringworm is a fungal infection that actually is not related to worms at all. This type of infection is usually a red, circular scaly patch with clear centers. Chances of contracting ringworm increase if the person is 

  • Living in warm climates
  • Living with people who have fungal infections
  • Has Diabetes
  • Has a disease or is taking medication that makes them immunocompromised

Ringworm commonly affects the body. It  It is related to athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm of the scalp, and nail fungus. Because it is a fungal infection, it often spreads by direct contact

Ringworm of the nails is another term for Onychomycosis or nail fungus. It is the most common type of fungal infection of the nails. This type of ringworm solely targets the keratin of the nails rather than the skin and is characterized by the following symptoms

  • Thick nails 
  • Deformed 
  • Yellowish discoloration
