Toenail fungus is often painful and unpleasant to look at. It can be treated, but like with any infection, it would be better to just prevent it in the first place. There isn’t a guaranteed solution, but there are a number of ways you can attempt to do this.
An infection can occur when your toes are surrounded by moisture. As such, it is important to keep your toes dry whenever possible. Keeping your feet from sweating and completely drying them off when you get out of a pool or shower will greatly increase your chances of preventing an infection. The more you change your shoes and socks throughout the day the better.
Staying healthy is also important so you should try to build up your immune system. One way to do this is by exercising. While you generally want to avoid sweaty feet, exercising will allow more blood to head down to your feet, strengthening your immune system in the process.
Finally, don’t ever use the towels or wear the shoes of people you know. Even though it might not look like they have toe fungus, you wouldn’t be able to see if they already have fungus spores living under their nails. If they do, you could easily be contaminated.
