Toenail fungus is quite common. If you don’t already suffer from a fungal infection, keep reading to find out how you may be able to avoid one in the future.
Fungus is very contagious. If someone you know already suffers from an infection, there is a chance that it could spread to you. To keep this from happening, make sure that you don’t dry your feet off with towels that they might have used, and definitely don’t wear their shoes or socks. In fact, if you believe that your own shoes or socks might be infected, it would wise to avoid them until they are no longer contaminated.
After showering, use a clean, uncontaminated towel to dry off your feet completely. If the area in between your toes stays wet, your nails may get contaminated. You always want to keep your toes as dry as possible. This includes avoiding sweaty toes for long periods of time. Wear sandals if you can to allow your feet to breathe. Closed toe shoes will not only cause your feet to sweat, but can also cause friction which could lead to fungus as well.
